The curriculum for the Social Studies department is taught in three sections, with course offerings rotating every other year.
Section one consists of students in the 7th and 8th grade. Section one students study American History for one year and World Studies in the second year.
American History is an introductory course, covering the age of exploration, the founding of our nation, and an overview of American history.
World Studies is a combination of World history, World cultures, and basic geography.
Section two includes students in grades 9 and 10. Students in this section study World history in the first year and Geography in the second year.
World history studies the history of mankind from creation through the Reformation and middle Ages.
Geography is an intensive class that studies each nation on our planet with an emphasis on both the cultural and physical makeup of the world around us.
The third section contains all of our upper classmen. The 11th and 12th grade studies a full year of American history, plus one semester of American Government and one semester of Economics. Each of these classes is an advanced level course encouraging students to think critically about the way our nation is governed, and the way our economy functions.
An elective class in business and entrepreneurship is also available for upper classmen who are interested in a career or degree in business.
